It's been a while since we've done managed to get a picture of our windows that does them justice! But with the warmer days and the smell of cut grass in the air and seeing the leaves starting to reappear on the branches we thought definitely let's do a little farming window... With some construction vehicles for good measure too, seeing as we have so many right opposite us at the moment!
From accessories like wooden fences that you could paint any colour you like to hay bales that look like real bales, to artificial grass, we've got everything you need for the model farm. I had a customer just yesterday who was delighted to find a roll of artificial grass, as she had been looking everywhere for it at Christmas. It was a great chance to remind her to always ask us! It can be hard to find what you're looking for sometimes, especially when we have such a big range in such a small space, but we generally always have a staple like this in stock and we can put our hand on it straight away.
With 3 for 2 on Schleich figures until the end of the week (April 7th) if you want to stock up on your farm figures now is a great time! We've got lots of other farm animals in 1:32 scale if that's your preferred scale (Schleich would be 1:24).
We absolutely love our Bruder pieces (1:16 scale) in our house and can speak from rough play experience, they are really durable and so much fun, especially to drive along windowsills!
I actually saw a lovely DIY idea just this week which I must try out for Cuan for summer. We replaced our fence recently and we've actually got some great planks that aren't rotten that we haven't repurposed into a new gate or used as replacement planks, so I think I'll clean them up, paint them black, and add some road lines. I'll make them shorter so he can move them around and arrange them himself. They'll be perfectly wide enough for the Bruder trucks!
For the super realistic scale machinery it has to be Siku and Britain's in 1:32 scale. And yes, they work together! As long as the scale is the same, you can mix and match your brands to complete your farm, so your Britains tractor with front loader WILL hitch to that Siku Livestock Trailer.
If they love farming as well, it's a great vehicle (pun intended!) to introduce some sensory play activities. Set up the farm vehicles in a tough tray, or basin, whatever you have around, and set some masking tape in a pattern on the bottom. Cover in lentils/barley/whatever you have in the press. Get kiddos to find the road for their tractor, and get the tractor from one side to the other. Leave some other farm-themed items around and allow kiddos the opportunity to decide what happens next - you'll find the farmer and the animals will probably need to travel the road too!
We hope that's a helpful little run down of farm if you're as lost as us when it comes to the farm section... We've learned everything we know from our customers who are the best teachers so it's only right we share the info!
